The Westerwaves want to do an "I want you to want me"-cover at their next gig and so the band combed the net to see how other bands had solved this task. My favourite turned out to be by Letters to Cleo who play a great straight forward version without any unnecessary bells and whistles which would be nothing but inappropriate if applied to this specific song.
However, it's the voice of Kay Henley, Letter to Cleo's singer, which makes this version special, but listen for yourself:
Actually, I wasn't aware of Letters to Cleo before my encounter with their "I want you to want me"-cover. It turned out they almost had their breakthrough in the early nineties and had a hit you might remember. I did when I heard it. It's a great song (and a great video):
PS: You might wonder which cover of "I want you to want me" the other Westerwaves prefer. I don't know for sure, but I suppose it's the version performed by The Knockouts (unfortunately the quality of the video is rather limited so you might want to check them out at Spotify, for example):
